I have been thinking allot lately about posting something to my tumblr about how I view my art and art in general. I think it would be helpful to me to make my ideas public so they can be better refined and their faults hopefully revealed. Its easy to think you are right if you never let anyone challenge your ideas. I will never assume I am right and if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
I have more theory writing and I would like to post them later depending on how useful this is.
This theory post is a list of how I break up my work into sections so i can better understand what I am doing and why.
Studies- the purpose of which is to build upon visual knowledge, be it in terms of form, colour, light and internal structural makeup. This section covers the learning of any new process or skills metalwork, sculpture etc.
experimental research based work.- this work is where visual ideas are put via to practice in an attempt to discover new ideas that would add to our knowledge of art. It is this work that requires the most critique.
illustrative- work that is made in order to communicate an idea outside of the artworks context in art. sub genres of this category are:
street art: defined by its intended audience, emphasis on social
issues and the context of its final exhibition in public spaces.
narrative art: art work made for the purpose of telling a story.
concept art: artwork made to display design elements for a
possible larger project
commercial art: includes commissions, editorial illustration, fashion illustration etc.
Automatic creative process: work made with no thought given to its intended use or relevance to any idea in an attempt to accidentally generate ideas or techniques relevant to the above categories.
I believe no creative should be labelled as one of these categories, I am an illustrator only when Im making illustration work and I am a landscape artist only when i am working on a landscape study, etc.

Pan’s Labyrinth Lullaby - Javier Navarrete
Deep in our midnight slumber there is another world where our imaginations are finally awakened. All inhibitions are gone. Everything that was holding you back in the real world is no longer an obstacle, it’s the ultimate liberation within the confides of our minds. However, as our body rests, our spirits speak to us in cryptic ways. We learn about ourselves, about our surroundings, and about life itself. We might not realize it, but this world is just as important as the real one. Without it we are lost.
“And he would wait for her, until he drew his last breath, until the world stopped turning.”
